Homemade Beef Bone Broth using a Slagel Beef Soup Bone

  • Braise

    Step 1

    Braise the Beef Bone in the oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.

  • Combine

    Step 2

    Place the braised beef bone in a large pot along with any juices from the pan, 3 quarts of water, a yellow onion (halved with skin left on), 4 carrots (roughly chopped) and 1/2 head of Garlic (skin left on).

  • Simmer

    Step 3

    Cover the pot, bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Occasionally skim the residue from the surface. Simmer for up to 24 hours. Add additional water as needed.

  • Strain

    Step 4

    After 24 hours, strain the broth through a fine mesh strainer and then ideally strain it again through a cheese cloth to eliminate any solids.

  • Enjoy

    Step 5

    Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
